This is another tick in my quest to climb the big, easy climbs of the Wasatch.

——

First, click here to see what the slab looks like (I don’t have a good photo of my own).

I first saw this cliff last year when I hiked up to Lake Blanche with Christian, and it’s been on my to-do list since then. It’s a giant rock slab hanging off the side of a mountain. The climb was really fun. I started out climbing in my approach shoes but the rock was less featured than I thought it would be, so I changed into my climbing shoes on a ledge a couple hundred feet up. The climbing was interesting and consistent. From the top, I hiked up and to the left a few hundred feet so I could have a good look at the Lake Blanche/Sundial area. I descended via a gully to the west (to the right of the slab in the photo above).

Here are my times:

  • 0:00 – Left the parking lot
  • 0:30 – Started climbing (the approach wasn’t bad)
  • 1:15 – Made it to the top of the slab
  • 2:10 – Made it back to the trail
  • 2:23 – Back at the car
