Amigo is my favorite Spanish word.

I love how Mexicans use the word amigo. As most Americans know, amigo is the Spanish word for friend. But they use it more than we use friend. At the checkout line in a store, the cashier will say “How’s it going, amigo?” The guy that I buy tacos from on the street: “What would you like, amigo?” It’s almost like how we’d use the word man, as in, “How’s it going, man?” But amigo feels less like slang or an informality and more… warm. I like it a lot.

Even though I don’t know anyone in Mexico, I have plenty of amigos.
